SKILLS

My strongest skills would be Java, C#, Javascript and CSS. Im also quite familiar with most major database systems; MySql, MSSQL, Oracle, and Sqlite. I do have quite a bit of Ruby on Rails experience as well.

Currently I work mostly using Java, Javascript, and CSS. However, before Bebo the majority of my experience has been developing web based applications using the Microsoft .Net framework, written in C#. I began adopting the .Net framework about the time it went beta 2. These applications were primarily written using a standard three tier architecture.

Prior to this I had done a good amount of development of both windows native applications and web based applications using C++, MFC, ATL COM, ISAPI DLL, Microsoft Active Server Pages, Visual Basic. Web applications would generally leverage CSS for presentation and often have a considerable amount of javascript involved to improve the presentation of the application. During this time I used Microsoft SQL Server almost exclusively. These applications generally relied heavily on Stored Procedures being the Data Access tier.

In the more recent years I have spent more time leveraging open source code blocks so I have had to expand on my knowledge base. More often now I write web applications using Ruby on Rails. For processing and native applications will primarily be written in Mono or the .Net framework, depending on the platform to be targeted.

During all this time I have worked with applications written in Java, PHP, and even Python. I have also been working on learning to develop OS X applications using both Mono, Cocoa#, Cocoa, and Objective-C. I wouldnt say I was particularly strong in these areas, yet.

Im most proud of Lightspeed, which started as a collaborative 'skunkworks' effort between a few engineers and is now the new bebo platform. Designed to be a structured MVC environment which is as performant as the existing jsp solutions, while being backwords compatible with caching and DB solutions. Lightspeed implements templating logic with helpers for almost all standard Bebo UI elements. There is a custom ORM layer which supports MySql and Oracle and will cache data to Memcached according to its annotation cache policy. We based many Lightspeed features on Ruby on Rails features.

While involved with the Sales Engineering team we implemented:
Dynamic content management system with built in targeting, templating, and analytics logic.

Analytics server which tracks about 10k impressions per second. Aggregates the data and pushes that data to Oracle where reports can be pulled from. This system is used for almost all aggregate analytics on bebo.com, and should be scalable to about 10 times its current load without any server upgrades. Its fault tolerant and can scale out.

Ad tag generation system which allows ads from third parties to be trafficed real time.

Some personal accomplishments while in this role:
I was highly involved with the site redesign.
Implemented the AOL Instant Messenger friend finder and viral flow.
Helped with many javascript/css features and issues throughout the site.

It was my teams task to retool existing open source and and in-house projects to find new business opportunities. Most of my projects were in the social networking space. Projects ranged from MySpace instant messengers, to Contextual streaming video solutions in a native client, to embedded HTML/AJAX jabber instant messengers.

During these development processes we also learned how to use open source technologies, such as wikis and Trac, to rapidly turn over applications from concept to running prototype.

With such short time lines we had to make sure to choose the most effective platform for the project at hand. For this we often relied on Microsoft .Net, Mono, and Ruby on Rails. We also made extensive use of third party web services which included SOAP, REST and RPC formats.
